21, For All Intents and Purposes

Last night at the Echo... 50-cent Haircut and American Primitive. Both played excellent music. The first guys were all decked out in suspenders and waistcoats and such, which is always fun to see. And the guys in American Primitive were just good-looking, period. It was fun, I'll have to make it over there again on a Sunday - all ages ;)

An old performance by 50-cent Haircut (not in full throwback dress, but oh well) playing Elliot Smith Blues

OMGZ

At the risk of sounding like a broken record since Andrea already mentioned this...

But, seriously, though. I was re-watching the trailers, re-reading the book, etc.

I. AM. FREAKING. OUT.
so excited!

Destroy My Sweater

I realize I am months late in hopping on along with this Raquel Allegra-inspired trend, but I had been rather occupied last semester getting my A in Environmental Law.

As a perpetual crafter, my room is littered with (mostly unfinished) DIYs and, as an avid knitter, in my opinion there can be no greater and liberating joy found than in destroying knitwear. So, last night plopped myself down in front of Conan O'Brien and took to a sort of big and unflattering AA shirt I never wore anyway. Here's my progress so far:

Just starting out

Almost done with the first panel

Crappy close up on my camera (I couldn't use flash since the shirt's white, so they were all coming out blurry)

I liked how the hem looked where I ripped out the seam - a little bit like perforated paper

First panel finished - it starts in the back but is sort of diagonal and goes up to my armpit

This project is pretty fun and therapeutic. Kind of relaxing to do in front of my Netflix Instant Play Beverly Hills: 90210, so at the risk of looking like I was on the losing end of a fight with Nancy Spungen, I think I'll continue with this... Maybe it'll make a good 4th of July outfit addition?

i solemnly swear i am up to no good.

this is a potter summer.
harry potter and the half-blood prince is finally coming out, after a huge delay that infuriated fans, myself and josephine included. but whatever, it's coming, and we couldn't be more excited! re-reading the books (currently on goblet of fire), rewatching the movies (currently on prisoner of azkaban)...it's like reliving my childhood. anywho, here's the official movie trailer for half-blood prince...it's bound to be amazing!

You Can Get It If You Really Want It

Swimming with long hair is such a pain in the ass. Long hair is kind of annoying in general, though, but I look awful with a short hairstyle, so I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. If (that being a very big if) I had guts I would totally want to do dreadlocks like these:

THIS and THIS are two of my favorites (but I can't post because of the rights being reserved, etc, etc). Annie Butterfly's entire Flickr is worth examining, but her Dreadie Adventure is especially interesting and informative. I especially love her dread shots after she got new extensions put in toward the end... really beautiful!

Lisa Bonet with some good hair, too.

I seem to really like them in a ponytail/pulled back/up, which is weird considering I am a no maintenance hairdo kinda girl, but they look so cool!

I Only Want You For Your Swatch...

I'm regressing back to my non-JC Chasez fourth grade crush: Sam Anders, of Clarissa Explains It All fame. That's what TV on DVD will do to a girl in the summer, I suppose.

Plus, its nice knowing he'll almost certainly turn into this when he grows up:

See?

And, just because I want Dicky Barrett, too, but you can't win 'em all:

Bloodletting

Let it be known throughout the lands that I positively lurve to knit. So, naturally, I googled "avant garde knitting patterns" one day (I believe), and came up with this: It is a scarf knit with surgical tubing, which is then attached to the wearer. The persons blood pumps throughout the scarf, giving it its color. This is possibly the strangest, most disturbing, and absolutely, if you will, "bitchin'-est" thing I have ever seen in my life. Brought to you by mixed media artist Laura Splan. Definitely worth checking out her other projects if you like this kind of thing (ie if you are as morbid as I am).

Banksy vs. Bristol Museum

Awesome, as usual

Heathers

Blog name inspired by the totally 80s lingo popularized by the 1988 cult classic Heathers.

Mean Girls ain't got shit on Heathers!

"I think I want to bring back bitchin'..."

In our first effort toward "cheap and fun things to do this summer", this is how our collective time was spent yesterday:

(although, granted, ours were not nearly this complicated. actual pictures to follow)

Shout out to Michael's

Yesterday was destined to be a throwback day, anyway, though, since we saw Essence Atkins at Porto's when we went to (br/l)unch.

~Mission Statement~

j: ok so blog is up and running, waiting for content. joint inaugural post?

a: yes! sounds good. about what, though? should it be our ~mission statement~?

j: mission statement works for me, what should we say? eskimo? "I would like to say a few words. Here they are: Nitwit, Blubber, Oddment, Tweak! Thanks you!"

a: dumbledore makes me happy. but maybe what we aim to do with the blog? as in, inform the general public about our AWESOMENESS??

j: I don't *aim* to do anything with the blog except to post anything I motherfucking feel like posting! we should just post this. I'm doing it. Let me know if you have anything to add.

So, to summarize:
- eskimo
- nitwit, blubber, oddment, tweak
- we have copious amounts of AWESOMENESS!!

that is all.
